Why peer connection matters

Veterinary practice ownership can be an isolating experience. It doesn't have to be.

Most independent practice owners are making consequential business decisions — staffing, pricing, capital investment, succession planning — without access to the kind of peer perspective that would make those decisions easier and more informed.

You can't share your real financials in a social media group. You can't benchmark your EBITDA against comparable practices at a conference cocktail hour. And you can't build the kind of deep professional trust — the kind that produces real accountability and real improvement — in a community where vendors, consolidators, and competitors may be watching.

VetValue's community offerings are built around a different premise: that the right peer relationships, in the right protected environment, are among the highest-value resources an independent practice owner can access.

Practice Leader Communities

Private peer forums for independent practice owners, without the noise.

Practice Leader Communities are VetValue's always-on peer forums — private, gated spaces where independent practice owners can connect, ask questions, share perspective, and learn from each other's experience.

Access is limited to confirmed practice-owning VetValue members. Members are listed with their full name and practice — which means conversations are substantive and accountable, not anonymous. No vendor pitches, no corporate sponsors, no consolidator presence.

What Practice Leader Communities are for

When you're facing a situation where there isn't one right answer — a difficult staffing decision, a question about pricing strategy, uncertainty about a specific vendor relationship — Practice Leader Communities are the right resource. Think of it as the peer conversation you'd want to have at a conference, without the time constraints, the public setting, or the people who don't belong in the room.

Access

Available to all EcoSystem members who purchase a premium membership ($99 per year).

Practice Management Groups

Small, structured, data-backed peer cohorts for owners serious about measurable improvement.

A Practice Management Group (PMG) is a small, carefully curated cohort of practice owners, or practice managers — typically seven to twenty — brought together to share financial data, benchmark performance, hold each other accountable, and push each other to improve.

Confidentiality.

Every PMG member executes a restrictive covenant agreement with every other member before any financial information is shared. What happens in the group stays in the group.

Comparability.

Groups are curated to bring together practices that are similar in size and service focus but don't compete with each other geographically. You're benchmarking against peers who are genuinely comparable.

Accountability.

PMG members set learning objectives, share progress, and hold each other to commitments. VetValue's platform supports each group's operations — including a private virtual clubhouse, meeting coordination, guest speaker access, and practice analytics tools.

What PMG members can expect

Practice owners who participate consistently in a well-run study group report meaningful improvement across three areas: operating efficiency, personal satisfaction in ownership, and practice value. The financial benchmarking alone — seeing exactly how your key metrics compare to similar practices — tends to surface opportunities owners didn't know they were missing.

Pricing

PMG membership is available to all EcoSystem members for an additional $299/year. Non-members joining directly pay $399/year, with EcoSystem membership included.

“Participating for many years in a study group was, by far, my best decision as an owner, enabling me to better grow my practice, and its value, by many times and, better yet, help me make some very valuable lifelong friendships.”

Why VetValue's PMGs are different

We believe every practice owner or leader can benefit from group study.

Peer group study works for improving business practices and building lifelong networks. We are not the only company that provides such resources, but we are the only company that provides access to peer group study in a way that can fit the time and financial budget of any practice owner. Multi-day on-site meetings may not be viable for solo DVM practice owners who cannot step away. Four-figure annual bills for one-size-fits-all financial reporting doesn't make sense for everyone.

We provide the online communications and administration platform for group study, plus a thorough legal framework. Individual groups, group members, and their consultants can determine what curriculum and meeting cadence works for the group. Neither the adoption of a chart of accounts, nor the purchase of KPI benchmarking, is a requirement for participation.

Already in a study group?

That's ok. VetValue's study group platform can enhance the value of membership in existing study groups. Let us show you what we mean.

Choosing the right option

Not sure which is right for you? Here's a simple way to think about it.

Private, always-on forum

Practice Leader Communities are the right starting point if:

  • You want peer perspective on an as-needed basis
  • You're newer to ownership or just joining VetValue
  • You want to explore peer learning before committing to a structured group

Small, tightly held

A Practice Management Group is the right next step if:

  • You're ready to share financial data with a small group of trusted peers
  • You seek to build deep professional peer relationships and want structured accountability
  • You're committed to making measurable improvements to practice performance over time

VetValue members may participate in both — using Practice Leader Communities for broad perspective and their PMG for the deeper, data-driven work. They serve different purposes and complement each other well.

The independence difference

What makes VetValue's community offerings different from other options in the market.

VetValue is privately owned, founder-led, and generates no revenue from advertising or from selling data about its members to vendors, consolidators, or anyone else. Our platform is gated specifically to keep corporate interests out of the spaces where practice owners need to think clearly and speak freely.

None of our community infrastructure exists to serve a corporate agenda. It exists because we believe independent practice owners are better owners — and better prepared for whatever comes next — when they have access to the right peers and the right support.

We make the vast majority of our revenue executing high quality practice sales for the owners who engage us. This part of our business will allow us to offer the EcoSystem perpetually without ever needing to sell to a national distributor.

Emeritus Practice Owners

Sold your practice? The community doesn't have to end there.

Emeritus Practice Owners are experienced owners and industry veterans who have completed their ownership journey and want to contribute their knowledge and perspective to the next generation. Through Share, they stay part of the community that shaped them — as contributors rather than spectators.

  • Participate actively in Practice Leader Communities alongside current owners
  • Serve as moderators or guest speakers for Practice Management Groups
  • Volunteer as contributors to the Practice Management Knowledge Library
  • Mentor the aspiring owners in the Aspiring Practice Owner Community

Legacy work, in the truest sense

Sharing hard-earned wisdom with practice owners who are still building theirs. For many Emeritus members, it's the part of the platform that keeps them most engaged long after their own sale is complete.

Common questions

Questions owners ask about peer groups.

What's the difference between a Practice Leader Community and a Practice Management Group?
Practice Leader Communities are broad, always-on peer forums for perspective and networking. Practice Management Groups (PMGs) are small, structured cohorts of 7 to 20 non-competing owners who share financials under an appropriate legal framework and hold each other accountable for measurable improvement.
How much does a Practice Management Group cost?
$299 per year for EcoSystem members, or $399 per year for non-members, which includes EcoSystem membership.
Can I join both a Community and a PMG?
Yes. Many members use Practice Leader Communities for broad perspective and their PMG for the deeper, data-driven work.
Is my financial information kept confidential in a PMG?
Yes. Every PMG member executes a restrictive covenant agreement including an NDA, a non-compete and a non-solicit, with every other member before any financial data is shared.
